Lifewise is looking for a Peer Supporter to join the team. Lifewise is the province’s first non-profit organization founded by and for people dealing with mental health and addiction challenges. Our purpose is to inspire hope for recovery and improve the quality of life for people dealing with mental health and addiction difficulties, as well as their supporters.

It is crucial to note that educational and certification requirements differ by location and employment. It is recommended that you examine the relevant criteria and regulations in your area to ensure you have the necessary qualifications.

Furthermore, continued professional development and continuing education are essential for PSWs to stay current on best practices, new approaches, and changes in the sector. Participating in relevant training programs and workshops can help you improve your skills and knowledge as a PSW.

Please keep in mind that this role will require close collaboration with the Opioid Treatment Team. With offices in Corner Brook and Stephenville, the candidate’s location is flexible. The OTT Teams will set job assignments and schedules, with Lifewise assisting.

The selected applicant will be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including those suffering from serious and persistent mental health and addiction challenges.

Peer Supporters provide frontline services in peer support, public education, and policy consultation in a range of settings and formats. Environments may include Lifewise offices, clinical offices/teams, hospitals, shelters, businesses, workplaces, communities, peer’s homes, and the streets. Modalities may include in-person, telephone, and e-supports, both one-on-one and in groups.

Duties and responsibilities

This job is responsible for applying their own lived experiences in conjunction with the criteria given by Peer Support, the Recovery Approach, Lifewise, and other partnering organizations. This role includes:

Provides regular peer support inside current and future programs of the opioid treatment hubs.
Collaborates with peers, professionals, and community partners to raise awareness about the value of peer support in the recovery process. This includes committee participation, public presentations, and relationship development.

Compiles, maintains, and reports monthly and quarterly program statistics.
Attends monthly program meetings to share important information and maintain excellent communication.
Helps analyze program patterns, identify concerns, and develop and offer remedies.
Stays knowledgeable about all aspects of peer support and rehabilitation.
Represents the organization as required.
Performs additional duties as needed Qualifications and Experience

Personal lived experience (and willingness to discuss) with addictions is preferred, although addictions and/or mental health disorders will be considered.
Worked with others and enjoyed assisting them.
Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence (unrestricted) with regular access to personal (travel is necessary in this work).

Work Hours

Full-time work; weekly hours may vary. Shifts are scheduled seven days a week, with the majority of them falling between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. Flexible work hours are essential to match the fast-paced, flexible community atmosphere.
