Provides customers, staff, and/or volunteers with instruction and support on the use of specialist equipment; orients, trains, and aids staff in operating rethermalization specialized equipment; oversees and updates staff manuals for rethermalizing food goods.

Full immunization against COVID-19 is required of all new hires at Fraser Health. Work Duties:

Works with the interdisciplinary mental health team to create and implement resident-specific meal plans that accommodate special dietary needs, such as those of people with diabetes, lactose intolerance, low fat restrictions, or who are vegetarian.

Oversees the day-to-day operations of the food service department, including the assignment of tasks, the provision of feedback, and the orientation of new employees in the areas of food delivery, preparation, and service.

The resident’s menu plan dictates the tasks to be performed, such as scheduling cooking and food preparation, in order to prepare and serve snacks and meals.

Analyzes menus and current inventory to determine food and supply needs; places orders with outside vendors; receives goods and supplies; verifies and reconciles invoices with purchase orders and goods received; investigates and contacts vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies and damaged goods; stores goods and supplies correctly.

Keeps track of kitchen spending, accurately records food inventory costs, and updates statistical and financial data; provides budget suggestions for assigned area.

Ensures a consistent standard of food quality, portioning, and service to residents; maintains and records related information on recipes and resident preferences; determines menu substitutions as required; assists the Mental Health team, family members, and volunteers in assisting residents with self-preparation of meals; directs the Interdisciplinary Mental Health Team on nutritional concerns, menu planning, and other food-related matters as they pertain to a resident’s care plan.

Keeps the entire food distribution system up to HACCP requirements; monitors and adjusts standards and procedures as needed.

Cleans kitchen and storage areas (including walls, ovens, and freezers), as well as food preparation and related equipment (including sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks and countertops, and removing trash), and washes, scrubs, and rinses dishes, utensils, and pots and pans by hand, in the dishwasher, or with a potwasher.

Verifies that all cleaned items meet sanitary standards.

Regularly takes part in departmental quality assurance programs; creates and guarantees the upkeep of food rotations in storage spaces, fridges, and freezers to reduce waste and spoiling.

Ensures that all equipment is running smoothly and promptly notifies the Manager, Clinical Services, or someone designated by them of any issues, maintenance needs, or repairs.
Complete further relevant tasks as needed.
