About the Opportunity
The Nutrition and Food Services, Food Service Worker works in both hospital and retail food service settings. The Food Service Worker, who reports to the Manager or Food Service Supervisor, may be in charge of preparing and distributing meals and supplies to patients, residents, Veterans, staff, families, and customers.
They are also responsible for cleaning and disinfecting patient trays, associated equipment, and workplaces. The Food Service Worker promotes safe food handling practices and provides overall service excellence. The Food Service Worker is responsible for a variety of essential tasks within the facility.

Key Work Activities: The percentage of time devoted to Key Work Activities is determined by the site and role they complete. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Patient Meal Selection (Customer Service)
Answering patient phone calls and entering meal selections on a computer, as needed.
Visit patients in their rooms and enter meal selections on an electronic tablet.
Product/Food Preparation, Assembly, and Service
Prepare, portion, and serve patient and visitor meals.
Portion and assemble foods, special meals, beverages, menu items, and prepare “mix & serve” menu items.
Salad and sandwich preparation.
Delivery & Collection
Delivery and delivery of selected menus and patient meals.
Delivery of sustenance, supplies (food and non-food).
Collection of soiled patient trays.
Food Handling
Participating in receiving and storing resources (food and non-food) utilizing First In, First Out (FIFO).
Receive and interpret patient diet/meal orders, validate patient meal requirements.
Inventory Management
Menu Duties
Create and print menus, reports, tallies, and labels.
Printing the Meditech/STAR report and comparing it to CBORD/Vision reports.
Food Safety and Sanitation
Clean and sterilize the dishes, utensils, equipment, and work area.
Maintain basic workplace safety and sanitation.
Safe food handling and cleanliness.
Proper hand hygiene, food storage cleanliness/temperature, sanitation, cross-contamination prevention, time and temperature control, and so on.
About You
Applicants must indicate in their application or résumé how they fit the following criteria:
Grade 12 / GED or equivalent
Alternatively, demonstrable talents and/or relevant work experience must be clearly indicated in your cover letter and resume.
Requirements include proficiency in English and basic math, as well as restaurant experience.
Customer Service Skills are considered an asset.
Ability to operate as part of a team to deliver services and fulfill departmental and/or organizational goals
Ability to accomplish duties within the expected timeframes and accuracy levels.
Ability to speak effectively while showing decency and respect
Competencies in other languages are an asset; French is desired.
Physical demands include prolonged standing and walking, bending, lifting (up to 35-40 pounds), pulling and pushing, and transferring/transporting equipment.
The Pot Room requires the following (just for personnel working in the Pot Room).
Special footwear may be necessary for some food service areas; the employer will reimburse for the purchase of safety shoes up to the amount specified in the Collective Agreement.
Heavy lifting (e.g., huge industrial bake and cookware mixing bowls)
Physically difficult and repeated work.
Working solo.
Hours
Full-time position with a bi-weekly workload of 75 hours and a generous compensation package.
Hourly wage range: $19.26 to $20.02
